FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Petaluma, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2019) — Employees from CrossCheck and affiliate, Optio Solutions, have now volunteered 17 consecutive months at the Redwood Empire Food Bank. The latest event was Sept. 25 when staff and family members participated in the food bank’s weekday Warehouse Support program. The worked entailed packaging food boxes on an assembly line.
Company volunteers have packed 1,956 grocery boxes, 2,650 pounds of non-perishable items, and 26,422 pounds of fresh produce from January through September 2019. The data equates to over 300 man-hours and approximately 74,682 meals for people in need. The team is composed of 12 volunteers per month on average.
The unified effort was initiated in May 2018 by CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III at the corporate headquarters in Petaluma. He continues to organize the monthly participation and is on site each month to help pack food.
“Our monthly volunteer night at the food bank has been woven into CrossCheck’s ‘fabric’ of community giving,” said Dortch.
He is joined by other senior vice presidents as well as CrossCheck Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Schumacher.
“This program is another example of our employees finding the community spirit in a variety of fundraisers and volunteer actions,” said CrossCheck CEO J. David Siembieda.
The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County while striving to end hunger in the community.
Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
