Petaluma, California (May 31, 2018) — “Eggs and bread on top,” joked Senior VP Charles Dortch III while channeling traditional grocery store checkout procedure. Dortch and 20 of his colleagues from CrossCheck and Optio Solutions didn’t pack any fragile items on the evening of May 24, but they did bag 4,800 pounds of apples for seniors in need while volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank. Volunteers were treated to a hosted luncheon at the corporate offices in Petaluma on May 25.
The consolidated effort by CrossCheck and Optio employees was made in support of REFB’s weekday Warehouse Support program where “activities include gleaning and packaging fresh produce for individuals and families throughout our community, assembling grocery boxes for seniors in need, and sorting donated staple pantry items for distribution throughout Sonoma County.”

The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County, while striving to end hunger in our community.
“This program is another example of our employees finding the community spirit in a variety of fundraisers and volunteer actions,” said CrossCheck CEO J. David Siembieda. “Our people are repeated champions of campaigns including the Salvation Army Angel Tree, American Cancer Society, and Alzheimer’s Association as well as disaster relief efforts by the American Red Cross.”
Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
