Petaluma, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2019) — A cadre of employees from CrossCheck and its affiliate, Optio Solutions, helped package 2,400 pounds of fresh carrots while volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank on Jan. 22. Volunteer Coordinator Joy Ferguson said the carrots represent 2,000 meals for seniors in need.
Launched in May 2018, the humanitarian effort marks the ninth consecutive month that CrossCheck and Optio employees have worked the REFB’s weekday Warehouse Support program.
CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III organizes participation and is on-site to help pack food. He is often joined by other members of senior management as well as CrossCheck Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Schumacher.
“The monthly volunteer night at the food bank is just one of the many ways that our people give back to the community,” said Schumacher. “They also contribute to causes such as the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, and American Red Cross.”
The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County while striving to end hunger in the community.
Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
