PETALUMA, CA - Company-wide donations from employees at CrossCheck Inc., the most innovative payment approval and guarantee provider in the nation, propelled the company to third place in total donations out of forty-eight participants in the Petaluma Relay for Life event, which provides funds to the American Cancer Society.

The brainchild of a Tacoma, Washington physician in 1985, Relay for Life events now span the globe with millions of participants in over twenty countries taking part in celebrations led by cancer survivors to raise funds for research, awareness, and patient care. In the United States alone over 4 million volunteer participants have raised in excess of $5 billion since the event’s inception.

CrossCheck has fielded a team since 2010 and this year raised $7,250 in the loving memory of those who lost their battle against cancer – and in the defiant spirit of “Fighting Back,” which the Relay organizers consider to be the event’s primary purpose.

Taking place at Casa Grande High School’s football field, survivors presided over the opening ceremony and walked a proud, hopeful lap around the track, cheered on by everyone. Then, to an outpouring of appreciation, caregivers took their lap and the relay began. Later came the “Luminaria Ceremony,” to honor the battles fought by those who were not there, and to help those who were process their grief.

“We’ll be back again next year,” said J. David Siembieda, CrossCheck’s President and CEO, “This is a great event and every company or individual who participates is a hero. We’re very proud of our performance, but we’re even more proud of the hope that the event inspires in our community.”
