Junior Systems Engineer


The Junior Systems Engineer is responsible for planning, communicating, implementing, and coordinating application system programming projects. Acquires customer requests for systems development and sets the delivery schedule. Allocates programming resources according to project needs. Supports a team of programmers to control the development process. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.



  • Ensure that programming activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Manage and provide technical leadership for the applications programming and software support staff. Maintain quality assurance and currency for application systems development. Perform analysis oversight during initial design and problem solving-of programming assignments.
  • Work with users to monitor Programming Requests (PR's), prioritize PR's and assign requests to staff. Insure completed assignments meet departmental standards and that documentation is complete.
  • Responsible for knowing Java programming and query tools; managing databases for optimum performance; and developing and adhering to CrossCheck procedures for control of programs and documentation.
  • Participate in the CrossCheck computing planning process. In a collaborative process with the VP of IS, provide input in the definition and accomplishment of department goals and objectives. Work with department’s companywide to identify areas where the computer system could aid in efficiency.
  • Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the company’s Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to meet department attendance requirements
  • Ability to work effectively under departmental pressure/stress situations


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 1+ years of people and team management skills, including effective conflict resolution
  • 1+ years’ experience in project management


  • Experience using any of the following tools or libraries is preferred: Mercurial, IntelliJ Idea, IBM Rational Developer, AS400, Gradle, Maven, WebSphere Application Server, JNI, JavaFX, and IIS
  • Understanding of computer networks, mainframes, servers, and other related hardware and software technologies
  • Understanding of Web Development Languages, such as Python, WordPress, Visual Studio etc.
  • Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
