The 4th annual summer Women in Automotive (WIA) Conference will focus on “educating and empowering women and men in the automotive community” by discussing content marketing, industry trends, and other factors impacting employment and sales growth for auto dealers. The conference offers ample opportunity to experience “Ted-talk-style” engaging keynotes, interactive educational sessions, and networking with educators, women in similar roles, and female industry leaders. The 2017 WIA Conference drew over 400 attendees.

The WIA group invites auto dealers of all experience levels to attend. The convention will take place June 24 – 26 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate in Orlando, Florida.

The Impact of Women’s Conferences

In the WIA article “Are Women’s Conferences Effective?” speaker Lelia Gowland points to a recent study published by Harvard Business Review that found that “well-curated women’s conferences can increase both attendees’ income and optimism.” The study sampled 2,600 working women representing a spectrum of industries who attended conferences for women in the U.S. Key insights from the study revealed that following an event attendees:

  • Increased the likelihood of receiving a promotion by 50 percent
  • Tripled the likelihood of a 10 percent pay increase
  • Reported feeling “more optimistic about the future” (78 percent)
  • Stated that they felt more connected to others (71 percent)

In addition, the study lists engaging sessions, memorable moments, female leaders who possess the qualities that a conference is emphasizing, and a realistic assessment of the current state of an industry as top benefits of women’s conferences and other women-led professional educational events.

Gowland highlights the importance of welcoming men at all events and sharing data from the study above to help end bias’s associated with women’s conferences and improve women’s experiences in the workplace.

Session Types and Tracks

WIA Convention sessions will be presented in four formats — 50-minute educational sessions, 50-minute educational panels with three or more speakers, keynote addresses, and keynote panels with three or more speakers. All sessions are strictly non-promotional. Sessions are categorized under the four tracks of Dealership Strategies and Tactics, Personal Development, Leadership and Trends for Women, and Selling and Marketing. Speakers include representatives from JD Power, Google, Facebook, VW and more. Session titles and details coming soon.

Community and Education for Auto Dealers

“There is power in connecting, and it’s not just about gender. Men and women alike can benefit from the power of connection,” states Gowland. With the goal of moving the auto industry forward, the WIA Conference operates as a platform for auto dealers located across the U.S. to connect, learn and share.
