The Best of the West Insights
LVM’s Best of the West, announced prior to each market, features “trend-defining designers that represent the very best of the west.” In an introductory blog article series, the seven designers discussed leading home furnishings styles for 2018.
"I like to choose furniture and accessories that can be used both indoors and outdoors,” said designer Kelly Nutt. Other 2018 essentials according to Nutt include textured accessories, plants, great lighting and upholstered seating.
Designer Audrey Woolen points to a “put together yet laid back” atmosphere in home décor. Woolen champions geometric accents, woven textures and aromatic candles.
In addition to plants, English designer Ginny Macdonald emphasizes the appeal of Rattan or woven accessories, seascape paintings or photographs, and Danish mid-century style furniture.
Team designers Jenn Pablo and Olivia Korenberg note the growing interest among consumers for sustainable, ethically sourced, and local products. This year, an oak accent table, a neutral sofa, and a Sisal rug are key décor pieces for Pablo and Korenberg.
LA native Ryan Saghian’s 2018 collection is inspired by current Hollywood and classic California Romantica designs. His must-have pieces include club chairs, an acrylic coffee table, and art from local up-and-coming artists.
Lastly, in the pursuit of a casual, relaxed and earthy feel, designer Heather Bullard recommends black and white photography or modern artwork, wood sideboard and a neutral area rug.
Top materials for 2018 referenced by the Best of the West include mixed metals, light antique marble, stone furniture, woods, smooth concrete surfaces, white plaster, velvet and textured textiles.
