CrossCheck Reviews Celebrity Car Collections - Part One
With more than 30 years in the payment industry, CrossCheck has had its fair share of auto dealership experience. But it doesn't take an expert to share in the delight of the luxurious car collections of celebrity drivers. This is part two of CrossCheck Reviews Celebrity Car Collections.
Car Racing Legends and Enthusiasts
Shirley Muldowney – "She did something women were forbidden to do and became a World Champion."1
- Known as "Cha Cha" and the “First Lady of Drag Racing,” Muldowney began her career in 1958 at 18 years of age on the drag strip of the Fonda Speedway. She was the first woman to receive a license from the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) to drive a top fuel dragster.
- In 1983, a biographical film of Muldowney's life was created entitled Heart Like a Wheel.
- She won a total of 18 NHRA national events and was the first person to win two and three top fuel titles in 1977, 1980 and 1982.
- Muldowney was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990 and internationally in 2004. She retired in 2003 and published her memoir, Tales from the Track, in 2005.
Danica Patrick – "The most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel racing"
- Patrick's win in the 2008 Indy Japan 300 is the only women's victory in the IndyCar Series race.
- Her third place in the 2009 Indianapolis 500 is the highest finish there has ever been by a woman.
- One of only four race car drivers to be featured twice on the cover of Sport's Illustrated.
- Current driver of the No. 10 Nature’s Bakery Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
- Fun fact: Danica Patrick recently posed as a Lyft driver, hauling passengers around Charlotte, N.C., in a promp video for the ride-sharing service.
Athletes and Actors in Cars
Floyd Mayweather – Retired Undefeated Five-Division World Champion Boxer
- Mayweather's collection is valued at $16.5 million and he's actively pushing for $30 million.
- Recently acquired the $3.5 million 2015 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse - one of only 44 made - his car's black-and-orange color scheme is a one-of-a-kind. With 1200 horsepower, this speedster travels from 0-to-62 in 2.6 seconds, reaching top speeds of up to 254 mph.
- Towbin Motor Cars reported to USA Today that Mayweather has purchased 100 cars over 18 years, including 16 Rolls-Royces.
- Fun fact: Mayweather has been known to shop the auto floor at 2 a.m. and pay with duffelbags full of cash; Towbin had to invest in a new cash-counting machine — needless to say they were happy to oblige.
John Cena – Wrestler, Actor, Rapper and American Muscle Car Collector
- John Cena's net worth is valued at a cool $35 million with which he's invested in 20 truly beautiful American muscle classics.
- As an American professional wrestler, he's won 19 WWE championships with two world titles and holds a record of winning WWE championship 10 times.
- Cena's first car: 1984 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
- His current daily ride and favorite car: 1971 AMC Hornet SC/360
Paul Walker – Fast and Furious Star, Philanthropist, "Bonafide Car Guy"
- This Hollywood superstar co-starred in six of the seven Fast and the Furious films — one of the most successful seven-film series about illegal street racing in cinema history, grossing more than $2 billion.
- A true street racer, mechanic and car collector, Walker owned an exotic car garage, "Always Evolving," and was approached about the series because Universal wanted a "bonafide" car guy to star in the series.
- Walker owned eight BMW E36 lightweights, the largest single collection in the U.S. as well as every generation of the Porsche GT3. His 30 or so vehicles — said to include BMWs, Audis and “a lot of Mustangs” — began selling in 2014 after his passing. Below is a video filmed by The Smoking Tire about Walker's amazing collection.
- Paul Walker and Pro Racer Roger Rodas, Walker's friend and business partner, died in Rodas' Porsche Carrera after a charity event on November 30, 2013.
- "He held a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fed his passion for marine biology by volunteering for a shark-tagging expedition and traveled the world with Reach Out to lend a hand following earthquake disasters in Chile and Haiti," reports thewrap.com.
