power sports dealersWith the tag line, “Intelligence you can profit from,” Boating Industry pulls no punches with its intent as a 90-year-old publication for marine dealers and industry professionals. Subscriptions are now offered in digital as well as print form while the company website presents a timely mix of news, featured stories, blog articles, resources, classifieds and employment opportunities.

On point, the news section on the day of this writing leads with a piece about representatives of the boating industry meeting with officials from the US Department of the Interior and the US Forest Service. According the the article, “outdoor recreation expansion and improvements” are part of the agenda in an industry that generates $646 billion in direct spending while supporting more than six million jobs in all 50 states.

Other articles cover new-product launches, new -product awards, the appointment of industry executives, and information about upcoming conferences.

Features and Rankings

The Features drop-down menu contains linked articles about recent issues with full content versus the growing practice of hiding information behind pay walls. For example, “The Workforce Crisis” in the April 2017 issue discusses labor shortages and how they adversely affect industry growth for power sports dealers. “As the boating industry has recovered over the last several years, dealers, manufacturers and others are increasingly struggling to fill open positions,” states the article.

Next, the Top 100 Boating Industry Dealers dropdown includes a list of dealers as well as an application for achieving that distinction. “We will continue to select a group of 100 companies for the list,” states the section, “and will rank the top group of 20 companies, recognizing them for their elite status in the industry. The No. 1 ranked dealer will be recognized as ‘Dealer of the Year.’”

Blogs

The Blog section contains timely articles written by nearly a dozen authors. A sampling of relevant subjects includes the difficulty in growing the boating market to struggling Millennials, the benefits of obtaining user-generated content on social media, and embracing corporate social responsibility.

The MDCE Tab

The 2017 Marine Dealer Conference & Expo takes place December 10 – 13 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Co-produced by the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas (MRAA) and Boating Industry, the event features four concurrent educational tracks, pre-conference workshops, keynote presentations, an awards celebration, a tradeshow, a learning lab, dealer-to-dealer roundtable discussions and many networking opportunities.

Digital Resources for Power Sports Dealers

The Digital Resources section is nothing short of amazing with its comprehensive archive of white papers, complete digital magazines, and provocative webinars and slides such as the “2016 State of the Boating Industry” or a transcript of questions following a webinar entitled “Creating a Social media Strategy.”

While the Classified section is a bit lean, the Career Center offers a total of 60 jobs at power sports dealers across the country and beyond. Want to be a marine service yard foreman, an expedition leader or a captain on a Hornblower cruise?

Boating Industry is a comprehensive resource for power sports dealers and their staffs. The print and digital media outlet understands the boating marketplace and delivers a wide variety of useful information without the cloak-and-dagger approach used by many trade publications.

Also of value to industry professionals, CrossCheck’s Multiple Check program is a specialized tool that simplifies the sales process. Multiple Check helps move big-ticket items by allowing consumers to write 2 – 4 checks to cover a single purchase. The checks all bear the purchase date, but they are deposited individually by dealers on mutually convenient dates over a 30-day window, thus giving consumers a little extra time to replenish their checking accounts. Consumers take their items home on the day of purchase while dealers receive guaranteed funding with each check deposit. Download our free guide to learn more.
