Heavy Equipment: Go Green with Remote Deposit Capture

Tallest Building in the World

As cities are built to reach higher, the air gets hazier with a layer of smog. It’s harder to see, harder to breathe, harder for plants and animals to thrive. Fuel emissions from cars, trucks, bulldozers, tractors and other heavy equipment add to these unhealthy conditions daily.

It seems that personal vehicles get most of the blame. Maybe that’s just because there are more people using cars to commute or drop their kids at school every day than people using a bulldozer. This doesn’t mean heavy equipment is any less hazardous to the environment and our health.

What can you do to make your earth moving machines more eco-friendly on Earth Day and every other day? Cleaner fuels and efficient engines are the answer.

Cleaner Fuels

Reducing harmful emissions can decrease damage to our health and the planet. Seems simple enough. Just use cleaner fuels. Ultra-Low Sulfur or Emulsified Diesel emit fewer pollutants like carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, while Compressed Natural Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas burn even cleaner.

Heavy EquipmentThese efforts can work. “U.S. emissions decreased by 3.4 percent from 2011 to 2012,” states the Environmental Protection Agency. “The decrease in CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion was a result of multiple factors including a decrease in the carbon intensity of fuels...”

Also, using renewable fuels can lessen the drain of the Earth’s resources. Biodiesel and other renewable fuels made from plant and animal matter can be replenished, are biodegradable and produce fewer pollutants.

Retrofit Technologies

But not all these fuels can be used in existing engines. Want to upgrade those excavators to run on cleaner fuels? New and existing machines can be outfitted with diesel retrofit devices to reduce pollutant emissions. The installation of each device -- from a diesel oxidation catalyst to exhaust gas recirculation – will depend upon the machine. But the time and costs can be worth it.

For example, Volvo’s Construction Equipment website explains that "Volvo Construction Equipment's new Optishift system offers a fuel saving of up to 15% in its bigger wheel loader range, and Eco Operator training teaches machine operators how to maximize the fuel efficiency of their Volvo machines."

Healthy Engines

Heavy Equipment EngineThe engine is to a vehicle what the heart is to a person. Both need to be kept in working order to keep the whole production going. Ensuring that the engine is healthy with regular maintenance and repairs will help the engine perform at its best, and reduce harmful emissions. The EPA explains, “For example, a leaking turbocharger oil seal can quickly lead to other engine or emission control system issues.”

The best part: overall costs will be reduced when you catch that leak before more damage can be done.

Save Gas

The only thing better for the environment than controlling fuel emissions is reducing their output altogether. The less you drive, the fewer pollutants there are in the air. When you accept a check, the next step is to deposit it at the bank. But with remote deposit capture, you can skip that bank trip entirely. Deposit the check remotely from your desktop to save time, gas and money.

Want to know how you can save more? A check guarantee service immediately assures payment, so you save yourself the worry of dealing with a bounced check. Click below to find out how remote deposit capture helps the Earth have more than one Day a year:
