Controllers: Check Processing Advice from the Wine Country

wineglassWhether it’s the rush to close the month or the start of a new one, your department always seems to have something to be anxious about. While we can’t promise that your accounts payables will start reconciling themselves or that payroll will go off without a hitch, we can offer some advice we’ve learned from working in the bucolic area of the world called Wine Country.

Always Check I.D.

Going wine tasting is often a family affair for both tourists and locals alike. Due to the many features wineries offer, from tram tours to gift shops, people often bring their children along. That’s where it becomes ultra-important for wineries to adhere to the 21 and up law. It’s not an offense to ask for ID – it covers the winery’s you-know-what. You should have this self-protection in mind for your business too. When someone’s writing you a check, make sure you see identification. Make sure the name, address, and other information on the check matches the person’s driver’s license or other card. It takes just a few seconds to pull out that extra ID. Anyone who makes a fuss about being inconvenienced or says he doesn’t have ID should raise that internal red flag.

Taste What’s Out There

Wine tasting usually involves a “flight,” a number of small shot-like sips of wine instead of a single glass of one serving. With a flight, you get to taste the winery’s different offerings (which they hope you’ll like enough to take home in the regular bottle size). Take the idea of a tasting and run with it when you’re investigating a check processing company. What tastes can they offer you? How many different services do they provide? With your dedicated wine server (we mean, your trained check processing customer service representative), you’ll be able to enjoy a package that’s perfect for your business.

Don’t Get Corked

Corking is an unfortunate problem that can attack wine, regardless of quality, type of grapes, or area grown. It turns a bold and beautiful taste sour or cardboard-like all because of a chemical called trichloroanisole, or TCA. One tiny bit of TCA can ruin an entire barrel. How does this translate to your business? One small problem, such as a late payment, can sour your entire company. Yes, it’s possible, because your business depends on payments so that you can turn around and MAKE payments. If you have no revenue coming in, you have nothing to pay employees, for supplies, for rent. Just as wine makers must always be on guard about corking, you should be on guard against potential problems such as bad checks. Check guarantee services are your way to beat TCA.

Let’s Get Bubbly

You may run a large department or simply helm all money matters yourself, but you’re not alone. We’re toasting you with some bubbly for taking the steps to even inquire more about check services. We think you’ll find it something to celebrate, just like these folks did. And one difference between wine and checks? Checks are always in season. So, raise a glass and toast your initiative!
