I'm back in the office with my check guarantee sales team after a very busy and exciting Las Vegas Market last week. This furniture market was very well attended by the home furnishings industry and the atmosphere was buzzing with positive, confident retailers. I don't think I've ever come back from a show so excited about the business. Here are some of the things I was excited to see at Market this year:
Attendance was up...way up. I heard a report that attendance was estimated to be 30% over the same market last year. With all of the friendly faces I saw, I would guess that to be true. I think that spells good news and a strong sense of consumer confidence.
Potential merger between home furnishing associations NHFA, WHFA and HFIA. All three of these are well run organizations with much to offer their membership. Voting is going on now between the memberships to merge into one powerhouse association for home furnishing retailers. Lots of good stuff if that happens! Think of the buying power and benefits an association of this size could provide its membership.
New vendors in the Retail Resource Center. I had an opportunity to meet Michael Jensen from High Impact Furniture Sales and Amy Bourne Young from Trekstone Financial. Like me, they are there with programs that help retailers increase sales. Michael's company helps with marketing, training, events and promotions. Amy represents several credit card processing programs. It was great meeting you both.
Opportunities to reconnect with current clients. Even with a jam-packed schedule, several of the clients I met at previous shows stopped by to say hello. I appreciate that.
Response to CrossCheck’s 90 Day Multiple Check program. I'm happy to say that I received a great response to our furniture industry-oriented hold check program. Retailers were very positive about in-store sales and understood the value in offering this program to their customers.
Building B for next year? The Retail Resource Center may be relocating to Building B in the future. Since several visitors mentioned that they had a difficult time finding us in C, new digs might help with our visibility. Stay tuned for more information if that happens.
News on the upcoming Home Furnishing Industry Conference (HFIC). Being held in New Orleans at the beginning of June, this industry event is going to be unequalled. The conference promises interesting activities, showcases, learning labs and networking in a city known for great food, late-night fun and world-renowned music. I'll be there June 2 - 4 and hope to see a big crowd.
All in all, it was a great show and I look forward to a lot of success for the industry in 2013. If you didn't make it to the Las Vegas and would like to talk about the market or hear more about check processing services, be sure to drop me a line.
