Charles Dortch, Vice President of Sales, is attending the Winter Las Vegas Market. Here's what Charles had to say about the start of this busy event for the home furnishings industry:
The first two days of Winter Market at the Las Vegas World Market Center are in the books and boy have they been busy! Overall attendance is up roughly 30% over the first two days of the 2012 Winter Market. Based on many conversations with retailers and fellow vendors, I think this is a clear indication that nationwide consumer confidence is definitely on the rise. Judging by the amount of traffic at the CrossCheck booth I would there is some truth to this. On Monday we saw over 300 independent retailers followed by an astounding 500 plus on Tuesday. Needless to say these first two days have been a resounding success.
The buzz in the Retail Resource Center has been non-stop and positive. Retailers and vendors alike are all focused on identifying and capitalizing on every potential sales and revenue opportunity. There seems to be a prevailing attitude of “let’s work together” which bodes well for all involved. There’s also excitement in the air about a potential merger between the Home Furnishings Independents Association (HFIA), Western Home Furnishing Association (WHFA) and the National Home Furnishing Association (NHFA). The voting process is under way and should be completed by the end of February.
The WHFA also swore in a new president. The gavel was passed to Valerie Watters of Valerie’s Furniture and Accents yesterday afternoon. I had an opportunity to spend a few moments with Valerie and, needless to say, she is very excited about this opportunity. This is a great association and I look forward to working with Valerie and the rest of the WHFA team over the next year.
