Tips to Be a Sales Pro

Sales tips Football season is a great display of training, discipline, attitude and ongoing practice from athletes committed to excellence. Top sales performers share this commitment and work at their game constantly, too. With this in mind, we asked Todd Little, CrossCheck's National Sales Trainer and former football coach for his tips on how to become a top-rated sales pro. As Vince Lombardi says: "Running a football team is no different than running any other organization..." Whether you are trying to refine your own sales skills or lead your sales team to victory, keeping these points in mind can up your game and keep the competition on their toes.

Here are five tips to help you become the sales pro for your organization:

  1. Focus on your goal. Figure out what your goal is, write it down and visualize it happening. The best athletes visualize the tackle or the home run or the perfect game. Visualize making the sale or winning the contest.
  2. Never give up. Everyone has a bad day now and then. Don’t let it get you down. If you have a bad day let it fuel your conviction to come back tomorrow and fight harder. It is not how many times you fall down that matters, it is how many times you get back up that makes the difference!
  3. Don't settle for second place. Make the decision to win. Whether quarterbacking the team or making sales calls, the top pros have a drive to be number one, not number two. Winning isn't everything...wanting to win is.
  4. Stay Strong. You want to win, you've got to stay in shape. To work hard you need energy and a strong body and mind. Take care of yourself, eat well, train regularly and remember to take a break from work once in a while.
  5. Practice, practice and more practice. Make the fundamentals fundamental! Sales or sports, both take constant practice. Check out the pros and you'll see they work on the fundamentals all the time- you have to, as well. Commit yourself to practice, make it a habit and you'll see improvement... and success!
