2017 Certified Flooring Installers Annual Convention

flooring installersThe 24th Annual CFI Flooring Convention and Expo takes place August 16 – 18 in Orlando, Florida. Produced by the Certified Flooring Installers, the event offers educational seminars and hands-on workshops taught by leaders in the floor covering industry as well as a chance to demo new products and great networking opportunities.

The three-day convention begins at 10am, August 16 with an advisory board meeting, followed by a certification team meeting, registration at 4pm and a welcome reception at 6pm.

Thursday Activities for Flooring Installers

The keynote session on August 17 features motivational trainer Darryl Ross before the 10am opening of the Associate Showcase (exposition). The day’s first three educational workshops follow lunch at noon:

  • flooring installersScott Humphrey, the CEO of the World Floor Covering Association, presents “Leadership Strategies that Work” about proven leadership strategies.
  • Next, the “LVT Installation and Repair” seminar will be taught by trainers from Tarkett, Congoleum and Armstrong. The highly qualified trio will instruct the audience on the latest LVT installations and offer tips for repair issues.
  • A seminar entitled “Third Part Inspections: Biased or Beneficial?” provides insight into flooring inspections, and tips on how to identify qualified inspectors.

Later in the day, a second session of workshops begins at 3pm. “Are You Ready for an Immigration Raid or Audit?” by Jeffrey King, general counsel for the World Floor Covering Association, explains the requirements for employee documentation and the consequences of hiring those without documentation while the “Custom Rug Workshop” instructs attendees how to create a custom rug. The day concludes with dinner and “Fun Night.”

Friday Activities for Flooring Installers

The final day of the conference commences at 8:30am with a general session, followed by three more educational workshops. “Is My Business Ready for New Technology?” touches on new technology that can help grow businesses. Next, industry professionals will show their audience the proper process for cutting seams, welding and skiving cove seams during “Heat Welded Seams — Get It Right the First Time.” Finally, “How to Read Blueprints” demonstrates how to read and understand blueprints.

The Associate Showcase exposition opens at 10:30am.

Three more workshops are presented immediately after lunch.

flooring installers“#marketingtomillennials: It’s About Life Stage, Not Age” shares insights on how to effectively market to Generation Y. Given by Mohawk Technologies, “AIR.O Innovation in Soft Flooring” is an informational and technical presentation about new broadloom carpet. The mid-day sessions close with “Squaring a Room Made Easy.”

The convention’s final two workshops for flooring installers follow a scheduled break. “Solutions in Subfloor Challenges” educates attendees on addressing different subfloor challenges while “Simplify Your Seaming Techniques” presents different carpet welding techniques to achieve the best results.

The convention will conclude with dinner and the CFI Annual Awards.
