Petaluma, California (Sept. 7, 2018) — Employees from CrossCheck and its affiliate, Optio Solutions, helped assemble 10,476 pounds of grocery boxes for seniors in need while volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank on Aug. 27. The boxes represent 8,730 meals according to Volunteer Logistics Coordinator Carlos Murcia.
The effort was organized by CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III, marking the fourth consecutive month of staff members supporting the food bank’s weekday Warehouse Support program. Volunteers aggregate and package fresh produce, assemble grocery boxes, or sort donated staple pantry items for distribution throughout the county.
“Our monthly volunteer efforts are contributing to the community and creating camaraderie among the staff members who participate,” said CrossCheck Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Schumacher, who was part of the team working the assembly line.
The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County, while striving to end hunger in our community.
Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
