Petaluma, California (July 10, 2018) — Employees from CrossCheck and its affiliate, Optio Solutions, packaged 7,000 pounds of apples for seniors in need while volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank on June 28.
Organized by CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III, the consolidated effort supported REFB’s weekday Warehouse Support program where “activities include gleaning and packaging fresh produce for individuals and families throughout our community, assembling grocery boxes for seniors in need, and sorting donated staple pantry items for distribution throughout Sonoma County.”
The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County, while striving to end hunger in our community.
“The Redwood Empire Food Bank is a tremendous asset to our community and it was a pleasure contributing to their program,” said CrossCheck Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Schumacher, who helped sort, weigh and package apples.
Evening Warehouse Support shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 5 – 7 pm, but a variety of other volunteer opportunities are offered throughout the week (see the REFB Volunteer page for days and times.)
